Contemporary Connections: Art Making with Seniors Part 2

 MAMC brought  Contemporary Connections: Art Making With Seniors Part #2, continuing the exciting collaboration with The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery (TPP).

In April we moved our virtual studio to Thorncliffe Park. We worked with 14 participants recruited through the Seniors’ Program at Toronto Neighbourhood Organization (TNO).  

MAMC presented the current Winter exhibition at TPP of the works of Nathan E. Carson, Leonardo Drew and Howie Tsui. 

MAMC offered a new format to the participants, where each constructed an accordion book.

The participants responded to the exhibition using a variety of techniques and materials. 

The group explored  the themes of Identity, Place, Presence of Absence and Belonging. The seniors drew on their long and rich experience contributing to lively discussions and very strong visual responses.

MAMC acknowledges the remarkable courage of the Thorncliffe Seniors in taking a risk and discovering their inner artists and erasing “mistake” from their vocabulary.
