MAMC designed this project to encourage participants to share the culinary culture of their countries of origin. We encountered a varied level of art training amongst the participants.
Individuals were very engaged, and although we navigated through some formidable language barriers, everyone arrived on time and was eager to try new techniques. The chatter is nonstop, and we laughed wholeheartedly when the women from Vietnam, Singapore, Korea and China tried to teach us words in their languages. Needless to say, we were hopeless.
The participants were very generous and brought specialties for all the whole group to share.
We introduced them to Giuseppe Arcimboldo (5 April 1527 – 11 July 1593), an Italian Mannerist painter renowned for creating imaginative portraits composed entirely of objects like fruits, vegetables, flowers, and animals. Humorous and accomplished paintings have been made by the participants. The abovementioned group found his work intriguing and absolutely bonkers.
There is a lovely tacit understanding that art-making abilities are not important, which allows them to take risks.
