THE BRAIN PROJECT

The Brain Project

The Mabin School Invited MAMC to design and deliver a second intergenerational project with Grade 4 students.

Students and grandparents engaged in a conversation to understand our brains, embrace our uniqueness, and celebrate each person's capacity for taking different approaches to thinking and solving problems. Over eight weekly sessions, the adults and students worked alongside one another to share their favourite activities and track brain activity when involved in each pursuit.

What happens in the frontal, temporal, parietal, and occipital lobes?
Where do we feel emotion, where is memory stored, and how do all these memories interconnect?
How does our brain interpret sights, sounds, and touch? Where are emotions, reasoning, and learning located?
What part of the brain maintains our balance, posture, coordination, and fine motor skills?

By interacting with each other as a group, we came to understand how different approaches to challenges are the spice of life, just as biodiversity keeps the rainforest thriving.

The Brain Project celebrates this wondrous organ and what happens when two generations engage in meaningful conversations.
