Through With Thread As Ink, I Tell My Story, MAMC engaged people who have lived in the Flemingdon Park community for a long time as well as newcomers to the neighbourhood. MAMC worked in partnership with the Flemingdon Health Centre. Our objective was to facilitate a project where participants shared their stories through a visual arts narrative. Voices of newcomers and long-time residents of Flemingdon Park shed light to the complexity of resettling in a new country or being retired and having time to participate in a socially engaged project that has personal meaning.
The project began with an orientation at the Textile Museum of Canada. MAMC demonstrated the art techniques of the project, inspiring artistic representation of the vital stories each participant shared. The outcomes of the project were the camaraderie it generated, a positive creative opportunity, a sense of accomplishment and future social networking for the participants.
