Making Art Making Change was invited by Evergreen Brickworks to participate in their Future Cities Project and deliver an activation during the Drop Swap Shop initiative.
MAMC was interested in facilitating an arts-based intervention to explore issues of conscious consumerism, the circular economy, detriments of fast fashion, plastic toys and electronics that invariably find their way into landfills.
The project activation provided social capital for participants and memorable personal interactions. During the intervention MAMC humanized the exchanges as we collected stories of objects and encouraged participants to attach a provenance card with provocations like: Who owned it? where does it come from? What was it used for? Why are you giving it away ? What message do you wish to for the new owner?
Following the Swap, MAMC was invited to make a presentation of this activation at the 2019 Future Cities Summit sharing the unique observations and interactions we experienced.
