Flemingdon: A New Book
Flemingdon Health Network

Flemingdon:  A New Book
Flemingdon Health Network, Fall 2025

This workshop series invited participants to explore personal narratives by creating accordion books—a signature MAMC format.

When creative provocations are relevant and respectful of the depth and complexity of women’s lives, the response is extraordinary. This remarkable group of women brought a wealth of lived experience, cultural memory, resilience, and imagination to their work. Through painting, drawing, collage, and writing in their first languages, they transformed personal stories into vibrant, layered, and deeply individual accordion books.

Their self-portraits, meaningful community spaces, and cherished objects and places were rendered with sensitivity, insight, and pride. The creative process became a space where identity, memory, and belonging could be explored with confidence and care.

MAMC’s collaborative approach nurtured rich dialogue, laughter, thoughtful risk-taking, and mutual encouragement. What emerged was more than a series of artworks—it was a community of women grounded in trust, respect, and shared experience, fostering individual confidence and new friendships.

Our sincere thanks to Svetlana Vigor and the vibrant group of women we had the pleasure of learning from and creating alongside during this eight-week journey.
