A collaboration with The Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute at Mt Sinai Hospital (SREMI)
MAMC was chosen by Dr. Jacques Lee, Inaugural SREMI Research Chair Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute at Mt Sinai Hospital to facilitate one of our programs for a group of seniors. They are participating in a Sinai study to identify different types of interventions to relieve loneliness and social isolation in the aged. We invited four more participants to join the study group. This allowed MAMC to reach an optimal number of participants for the creative experience to be dynamic, yet intimate.
MAMC’s unique methodology of engagement elicits wonder, surprise, a growing sense of confidence in the group’s creative practice, and self-discovery. During 8 sessions, the group shares their interesting lives and interacts through the stories they tell, share their work, and support each other.
MAMC’s research centers around the use of art making over an extended period to build relationships between people who begin as strangers, and end up building a supportive creative community beyond the program.
