Contemporary Connections

MAMC has a new, exciting collaboration with The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery!

MAMC has just completed an exciting first iteration of the three part project: Contemporary Connections: Art Making with Seniors.

In February, 2021 a group of seniors from Progress Place in St JamesTown and Dixon Hall in Regent Park responded to the current Winter exhibition at The Power Plant Contemporary Gallery. The works of Nathan E. Carson, Leonardo Drew and Howie Tsui inspired a community of seniors to share their stories while making art together.
In MAMC’s research we identified four common themes in the artist's work:  A sense of belonging, the presence of absence, identity of place and a sense of regeneration.
The group  conversations evolved around these ideas as each participant drew from their lived experience to create their artwork.
The three artists use distinctive materials in their exploration of subject matter.
MAMC offered a range of artist quality materials to facilitate their individual expression.
MAMC’s intended outcomes in building resilience, strengthening social bonds and promoting social engagement in a population experiencing isolation and loneliness were successfully realized in this project .
MAMC invites you to visit our website often to see the work as it evolved.
Stay tuned for Part #2 in Thorncliffe Park
