Making Art Making Change (MAMC) collaborated with Gifts of Light, an initiative at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) that supports patient wellness.
MAMC delivered eight sessions in the Critical Care Unit for young adults at CAMH. Over our time together, MAMC facilitators provided art-making materials and introduced new approaches, engaging participants in individual and collaborative creative explorations. MAMC’s facilitators presented different artists as inspiration, and techniques or styles emerged in conversations with the participants. They experimented with mark-making using charcoal, chalk pastels, oil pastels, and acrylic paint.
The sessions encouraged collaborative engagement and community building in a safe and welcoming environment, facilitated across a large table. Participants also worked in their sketchbooks, recording their thoughts and ideas, and found these notations and reflections to be a valuable aspect of the programme.
