MAMC has had the pleasure of collaborating with the seniors at Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre (DPNCHC) on several creative projects. For this latest initiative, we explored the world of magazine collage with a fresh perspective.
Our creative prompt invited each artist to imagine a person—real or imagined, historical or fictional, living or deceased—who inspires them. Using that figure as a muse, participants explored themes of tradition, folklore, storytelling, costume, couture, and ornamentation.
The result? Twenty wooden mannequins adorned in imaginative outfits crafted from the papers and textures of collage—an avant-garde Met Gala all their own.
This project has been thought-provoking, challenging, and thoroughly original. We’ve been amazed by the inventive paper-folding techniques, the bold risk-taking, and the vibrant creativity of each participant. What emerged is a runway rich with culture, colour, humour, imagination, and artistry.
